TO SANCTUARY-BUILD FIRST LET’S SET SOME COMMON GROUND:

OUR PRINCIPLES

  • we are not here to impress each other; we are here to be seen attentively; to see what happens when you give a new piece air to breathe ; to make things together

  • it doesn’t matter if it’s “good”, it matters if it’s true. goodness is inherent to our truths.

  • no phones ; yes paper

  • bring your individuality, but ditch the individualism. we celebrate differences while recognizing that we’re more than the sum of our parts.

  • as far as the performance and creation of your piece, anything goes. try new things. nothing’s too far out. this is a place for experimenting with your creativity.

  • no judgement – you can’t be critical of something true

  • it’s ok if it feels weird. it’s actually great if it feels weird. if it feels unusual, or vulnerable, you’re probably doing something right. try easing into it. embarrassment means you’re approximating truth. there’s no practical use for the barrier of embarrassment here (leave it at the door)

  • consent & personal boundaries must be respected at all times. consent can be rescinded. be weird but don’t make it weird!

  • leave no tracekeep the sanctuary sanctified!

  • no transaction, no commodification; yes giftgiving, yes worldbuilding! this is a participatory space resisting commodification; anti-transactional

  • nonattachment from outcome and possession. we are channelers. summoned art is neither mine nor yours, and it’s only “ours” insofar as it relies on us to witness it.
